I have just spoke with Phyllis. She wanted me to thank everyone for all the heartfelt concern and your prayers. He is going to have a lot of mail when he gets home. Phyllis had to spend some time in the office so Ed’s niece Janet is at the hospital watching over him. His condition remains the same. Depending on his medication, he can be semi-conscious and aware of what is being said to him. He laughs and responds by nodding. He gets a pain shot and it puts him under. Your prayers are working. Lets all have a goal of praying that he is out of ICU in 2 days. Jim Spohn and I are going to see him tonight and we hope to bring back further good news.

I spoke with Kay (Phyllis’ sister) about 1/2 hour ago. Ed is resting and appears to be more comfortable. The Dr told Phyllis that Ed is doing better. Three friends, Gene, Larry and Chris went to see him and thought he looked better. Keep the prayers up folks! When was the last time you got down on your knees in prayer? Now is the time. I am going out of town on a planned trip with several members of my family. I will try to keep everyone aware of what’s going on plus I have given Kay my email addresses. Between her and my wife Pat, we should be able to keep everyone in the loop. Please hold the emails until Monday, July 16th and please pray for my Buddy. GARY

Update on Ed. Hi Jim, it was good to see you and Gary. Gary is out in the middle of the bay fishing so I thought I would update you, so you could update others. Ed is not doing as well as expected and doctors said they would make a decision on Monday on what else they can do to help him. So, still one day at a time. Thanks to everyone for their cards and letters. PHYLLIS STRICKLAND

Per Phyllis and Kay yesterday, no visitors as this time. Please hold all communication with Phyllis. Please respect Phyllis’ wishes in regards to visitation and phone calls. Not much change today. He hasn’t gotten extremely worse but he isn’t getting extremely better. Due to medication there is no communication going on. Hopefully, more test results will be in tomorrow. Thanks for all your well wishes! PHYLLIS & KAY

Finally! We were meeting with doctors til about 6;30, luckily several of them showed up. Trach is in and they are giving him pain medication because of surgery, so he is still out. They are going to try to wake him in the morning and see how he responds. We are waiting for the results of echo on his heart. Pulmonary doctor did say he thinks he will pull through this, but it is going to take a long time. It is in GOD’S HANDS. FROM KAY & PHYLLIS

Ed is really going thru a tough time as is Phyllis and Kay. Please keep the 3 of them and Ed’s doctors in your prayers.
We have different doctors coming in during 10-2 shift. He is still agitated and they had to increase his diprivan again. They have him off of all medications that will have sedating side effects and will try again later. We are still waiting for the results of echo on his heart. They will be inserting a feeding tube into his stomach so the tube will not be in his nose. Once he is what they consider “stable” and off of the dirprivan, they are going to transfer him to a facility. The facility would be in Brooksville or Tampa for long term rehabilitation. (Could be 48 hours, could be a week.) This is going to be a day at a time to see how much he can improve. KAY AND PHYLLIS

Many of us attended a beautiful and memorable Military Funeral for Ed at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, on Friday, August 3, 2012. After the ceremony we went to Ed & Phyllis’ home and celebrated together as friends and family, Ed’s life and the wonderful person he was. We all shared stories, photo’s, video’s, etc. of all the great and funny memories with Ed. We had a great time with Phyllis and others sharing this wonderful “Celebration of Life“ of Ed. Thanks to all that came and don’t forget to keep in touch with Phyllis, and keep her in your prayers daily. Let’s don’t wait for something like this again to get us all together. As each of us noted that we would like to get together more often, don’t forget to add your email address to this blog (under comments for Ed) and state in the blog your email and how you would like us all to get together. Maybe we could even give it a group name???? Let us know what you think!
New photo’s of the “Celebration of Life” and other photo’s will be posted soon! Check the blog often for upcoming events and plans.
